It’s Time to Show Me Your Ears

Let’s erase the stigma of hearing loss.

In 2012, I launched a campaign called “Show Me Your Ears”.  I have written extensively about my progressive hearing loss on this site. For a few years after the hearing loss diagnosis, I had initial reluctance to wear hearing aids or show them off to anyone, particularly in work settings. I was afraid of what people would think about them. Would they think I was unable to communicate with them?

After getting involved with organizations, such as the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), and Center for Disability Inclusion, I made a decision: to embrace my hearing loss.

The Show Me Your Ears campaign launched 13 years ago on my site LipreadingMom.com. Since then, hundreds of individuals from around the world have submitted photos of their ears, hearing aids, and cochlear implants for this campaign. Photos and stories are featured on the Show Me Your Ears page linked at the end of this post. Please check it out.

To participate, you can send me your photo through LinkedIn DM, comment below, or contact me via LipreadingMom.com and use the hashtag #ShowMeYourEars.

Let’s show others that there is no stigma with hearing loss or deafness by showing off our ears, hearing aids, and CIs.

Photo descriptions:

A series of photos feature me wearing hearing aids and my cochlear implant. Each of the hearing devices are decorated with bling, from colorful decals to jeweled charms.

  1. I can remember back then when you launched Show Me Your Ears. How time flies. I was writing my deaf blog back then and not my blog that I write now. It’s a good campaign and I am glad you are proud to show off your hearing device.
