Family, Friends, and Elvis – Lipreading Mom’s Year in Pictures (Part 1)

In appreciation of your support over this past year, I thought it would be fun to reflect on 2012 highlights from Lipreading Mom. Presenting the first half of this blog’s and my year in pictures…

In February, a caravan of friends and family drove with me to Atchison, Kansas, at my speaking event for the first-ever Grace & Girlfriends women's retreat. Live captioning was provided by volunteer/friend Donna (kneeling, front). Do you spot Lipreading Mom standing on tiptoes in the back?

Volunteer Vicki provided captions for my April Grace & Girlfriends event in St. Joseph, Missouri. Typing fingers are a blessing.

While on a family trip to Graceland this spring, I heard Elvis' magnificent voice crystal-clear, thanks to facility-wide looping and captioning.

The first-ever Deaf Women's Tea was held in Kansas. My table mates consisted of sign language interpreters, Kansas School for the Deaf staff...and my darling little girl. This was my first experience with having a sign language interpreter devoted strictly to communicating with me.

A record crowd attended the local Hearing Loss Association of America Picnic in late spring. This is only a third of the group from that day. (Lipreading Mom stood behind the camera.)
