Introducing “Heard”, A Documentary About the Hearing Loss Experience: An Interview with Filmmaker Brian Ceci

In the new documentary film, “Heard”, cinematographer and filmmaker Brian Ceci focuses the camera on five individuals, including himself, as they share their experience with hearing loss and deafness. Brian was inspired to create this film after finally embracing his lifelong hearing loss and after watching a similar film in the Spanish language.

As a Canadian, Brian wanted to feature stories along a similar vein, in an English language film with fellow Canadians as the film subjects. He is currently looking for locations in and outside of Canada in which to screen the film.

In the latest episode of the Deafinitely Talking podcast, Brian and I talk about:

  • The story behind the documentary “Heard”, its accessible open captioning, and it grassroots-style creation and look at the hearing loss spectrum
  • Brian’s journey of embracing hearing loss after facing challenges–and why he stopped wearing hearing aids at 13 but resumed in his 20s
  • Brian’s extensive travel experiences, particularly in Africa, and the unique challenges of traveling with a hearing loss
